History

Founding Year: 1948

Family & Children Services has served Santa Clara and San Mateo counties since 1948. We were founded to address community needs similar to those we address today.

Our San Jose parent agency was founded to respond to the need for mental health services for veterans returning from World War II and their families. Our Palo Alto parent agency began services to address needs identified through community meetings and dialogues. Counseling services were intended to support children, adults, and families dealing with economic stress, alcoholism in the home, family conflict, and other, similar issues.

In 2001, Family & Children Services was formed through the merger of Adult and Child Guidance Center (San Jose) and Family Service Mid-Peninsula (Palo Alto).
